Abstract
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) ภูมิหลังของประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนอง
สามหมื่น ตําบลบ้านแก้ง อําเภอภูเขียว จังหวัดชัยภูมิ และ(2) พิธีกรรมและความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่น ตําบลบ้านแก้ง อําเภอภูเขียว จังหวัดชัยภูมิ การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ใช้แบบสัมภาษณ์แบบไม่มีโครงสร้าง และแบบสังเกตแบบไม่มีส่วนร่วมเป็นเครื่องมือวิจัย โดยเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างจํานวน 40 คน แบ่งเป็นผู้นําชุมชน จํานวน 10 คน ผู้ประกอบพิธีกรรม จํานวน 5 คน ชาวบ้านผู้เข้าร่วมพิธีกรรม จํานวน 20 คน และผู้รู้จํานวน 5 คน การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเป็นการวิเคราะห์เชิงพรรณนาผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า (1) ในอดีตชาวบ้านเรียกประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่นว่าเอาบุญธาตุหรือบุญสรงธาตุ เป็นประเพณีการนํานํ้าอบนํ้าหอม หรือนํ้าขมิ้นสรงไปรอบที่องค์พระธาตุ 3 รอบ ประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่นกําหนดจัดขึ้นในวันขึ้น 15 คํ่า เดือนห้า ซึ่งตรงกับเดือนเมษายนของทุกปี จนถึงวันแรม 14 คํ่า เดือนห้า ประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่น เป็นประเพณีที่จัดขึ้นเพื่อฉลองใหญ่องค์พระธาตุหนองสามหมื่นและถือว่าเป็ นวันขึ้นปีใหม่ของชาวตําบลบ้านแก้ง ประเพณีดังกล่าวมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งในด้านการจัดงานประเพณี และในด้านการเข้าร่วมประเพณีของชาวบ้านเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับสภาพสังคมในปัจจุบัน (2) พิธีกรรมและความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่น ที่ปฏิบัติสืบต่อกันมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ได้แก่ พิธีเซ่นสรวง พิธีก่อพระเจดีย์ทราย พิธีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุ พิธีสมโภช พิธีบนบานและแก้บน และพิธีขอขมาองค์พระธาตุ สําหรับความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับประเพณีสรงนํ้าพระธาตุหนองสามหมื่น ได้แก่ ความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับระยะเวลาในการประกอบประเพณีพิธีกรรม ความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับสถานที่ใช้ประกอบประเพณีพิธีกรรม ความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับบุคคลที่เกี่ยวข้องในการประกอบประเพณีพิธีกรรม และความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับวัตถุสิ่งของที่ใช้ในการประกอบประเพณีพิธีกรรม
The objectives of this research were to study (1) the background of the “Ablution of the Phra That Nhong Sammuen” tradition in Bankaeng Sub-District, Phu Khieo District, Chaiyaphum Province; and (2) rituals and beliefs surrounding that tradition. This was a qualitative research. Data were collected through nonparticipatory observation and unstructured interviews with a sample of 40 people, consisting of 10 community leaders, 5 ritual practitioners, 20 participants at the ritual, and 5 knowledgeable people. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The major findings were as follows: (1) In the past the villagers called this tradition “Ao Boon That” or “Boon Sohng That” (meaning “merit-making by bathing the relics”). They would circumambulate the Phra That Nhong Sammuen monument 3 times and splash on fragrant water, herbal infusion water or turmeric water. The ablution always started on the full moon day of the fifth lunar month (in April) and lasted until the fourteenth day of the waning moon of the fifth lunar month. It is the major annual ritual to worship the Phra That Nhong Sammuen monument and is considered a New Year celebration for the residents of Bankaeng. The ways in which the ritual is observed and the ways in which the local residents participate in the ritual, have changed over the years to fit with the social situation. (2) The surrounding rituals and beliefs that have been passed down to the present day include propitiation, making of sand chedis, ablution of the relics, celebration, making of vows, redeeming of vows, and asking for forgiveness. As for the surrounding beliefs, they include beliefs about the time and place of the ritual, beliefs about the people who participate in the ritual, and beliefs about the materials used in the ritual.
