การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่มีผลต่อคติความเชื่อ พิธีกรรมและวิธีการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนา

Abstract

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) ประวัติความเป็นมาของการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนาตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน (2) คติ ความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนาตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน (3) กรรมวิธีการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนาทั้งในอดีตและปัจจุบัน (4) การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่มีผลต่อรูปแบบ พิธีกรรมและวิธีการสร้าง พระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนา วิธีดำเนินการวิจัยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึก การสังเกตแบบมีส่วนร่วมและการสำรวจชุมชน ผู้ให้ข้อมูลได้แก่ พระสงฆ์ เจ้าภาพในการสร้าง ผู้รู้ด้านการสร้างและประกอบพิธีกรรม ประชาชนผู้มีจิตศรัทธา รวมทั้งสิ้น 30 คน การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเป็นการวิเคราะห์เชิงพรรณนา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ในอดีตการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนา มีการสร้างน้อยเป็นการสร้างโดยกษัตริย์ และจะสร้างไว้ในสิ่งมุงบัง ปัจจุบันมีการสร้างมากขึ้น ผู้สร้างมีหลากหลายตั้งแต่กษัตริย์จนถึงประชาชนทั่วไป และจะนิยมสร้างไว้กลางแจ้ง 2) ในอดีต มีคติ ความเชื่อคือเป็นการสร้างเพื่อสืบอายุพระศาสนา และแสดงบารมีธรรมของผู้สร้าง ส่วนในปัจจุบันมีคติ ความเชื่อคล้ายกับในอดีต แต่จะแตกต่างกันที่วัตถุประสงค์ของการสร้างพระพุทธรูปขนาดใหญ่ ส่วนพิธีกรรมการสร้างพระพุทธรูป จะมีทั้งแบบพุทธพราหมณ์ ผี ที่สืบทอดมาจากอดีต ส่วนปัจจุบันจะมีแตกต่างจากอดีตเพียงเล็กน้อย ในแต่ละท้องถิ่นของล้านนา ซึ่งจะเกี่ยวกับความเคร่งครัดของผู้ประกอบพิธีกรรมซึ่งในปัจจุบันจะมีน้อยกว่าในอดีต 3) กรรมวิธีการสร้าง พระพุทธรูปพบว่า รูปแบบวิธีการก่อสร้างและการใช้วัสดุในอดีตและปัจจุบันจะแตกต่างกันมากทั้งวัสดุที่ใช้และเทคนิควิธีการสร้าง 4) การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่มีผลต่อรูปแบบพิธีกรรม วิธีการสร้างพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นขนาดใหญ่ของล้านนามีปัจจัยสำคัญ ได้แก่ ปัจจัยด้านภูมิประเทศ ผู้นำ การศึกษา การสื่อสาร การคมนาคม เทคโนโลยี และการเมือง

The objectives of this research were to study (1) the history of building large Lanna style stucco Buddha images; (2) rituals and beliefs involved with building large Lanna style stucco Buddha images from the past to the present; (3) the processes of building large Lanna style stucco Buddha images in the past and the present; and (4) the social and cultural changes that impacted the rituals and methods for building large Lanna style stucco Buddha images. This was a qualitative study based on in-depth interviews, participatory observation and a community survey. The 30 key informants consisted of Buddhist monks, donors who paid for Buddha image construction, people knowledgeable about building methods and rituals, and faithful Buddhists. The data were analyzed through descriptive analysis. The study findings revealed that (1) In the past, not many large Lanna style stucco Buddha images were built. Most were built by monarchs and were built with a roof covering. In the contemporary era, the number of Buddha images built has increased, most are built outdoors with no roof, and the builders range from the general public to royalty. (2) In the past the main beliefs supporting the building of large stucco Buddha images were the belief in promoting and passing down the religion and the belief in demonstrating the great merit of the builder. In the present, the beliefs are similar to in the past, but the objective of building the images differs. The rituals that accompany the building of these Buddha images derive from Buddhist, Brahmin and animist traditions. The rituals in each locality are only slightly changed from in the past. In general, the performers of the rituals are less strict than in the past. (3) As for the building methods, the construction techniques and materials used have changed greatly from the past. (4) Social and cultural changes that affected the rituals and construction methods for building large Lanna style stucco Buddha images are topographical factors, social leaders, education, communication, technology and politics.
