Abstract
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) ศึกษากระบวนการแสวงหาสารสนเทศ ของนักศึกษาบัณฑิตศึกษาสาขาสารสนเทศศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราชในการทําโครงการวิทยานิพนธ์ ( 2) ศึกษาสภาพปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศ ของนักศึกษาบัณฑิตศึกษาสาขาสารสนเทศศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราชในการทําโครงการวิทยานิพนธ์การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพนี้ ใช์แนวทางการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาคําสัมภาษณ์ของผู้เข้าร่วมวิจัย 15 ราย ซึ่งเป็นนักศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษาแขนงวิชาสารสนเทศศาสตร์ สาขาวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราช จํานวน 46 ราย ที่ลงทะเบียนเรียนชุดวิชาวิทยานิพนธ์1 ในภาค การศึกษาที่ 1/2546 การคัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างพิจารณาจากความแตกต่างของลักษณะเนื้อหาใน 3 กลุ่มหัวข้อวิทยานิพนธ์ ซึ่งนักศึกษาเสนอต่อมหาวิทยาลัย โดยใช้ตัวแบบพฤติกรรมการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักสังคมศาสตร์ของเอลลิส เป็นแนวทางการศึกษาผลการวิจัยพบว่า (1) กระบวนการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักศึกษาบัณฑิตศึกษาสาขาสารสนเทศศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราช มีลักษณะใกล็เคียงกับตัวแบบพฤติกรรมการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักสังคมศาสตร์ของเอลลิส โดยกระบวนการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักศึกษาประกอบด้วย การเริ่มต้น การสํารวจเลือกดู การเชื่อมโยงร้อยเรียง การค้นหาแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง การติดตามลิงค์ การแยกแยะ การดึงสารสนเทศออกมา และการตรวจตรา (2) สภาพปัญหาที่นักศึกษาประสบระหว่างการแสวงหาสารสนเทศ ได้แก่ ไม่สามารถเข้าถึงเอกสาร

The purposes of this qualitative study were to find an information seeking process and to investigate the problems and barriers in information seeking of graduate students in Information Science at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University while preparing their thesis proposals.The study used face-to-face, in-depth interviews to elicit data from a sample of 15 graduate students in Information Science at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University who were working on their thesis proposals in three different research areas during the first semester of the academic year 2003. David Ellis’s Information Seeking Behavioral Model of Social Scientists provided a framework for understanding the information seeking and its process. The major findings are: (1) the information seeking process of graduate students in Information Science at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University consists of starting, browsing, chaining, specific searching, linking, differentiating, extracting, and monitoring, and (2) the prevalent problems the students encountered are: inability to access full-text documents, unsatisfactory retrievals, too many retrievals, and a number of retrievals are in English
