การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) การแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักท่องเที่ยว
ชาวสหราชอาณาจักรกลุ่มผู้มีรายได้สูงที่เดินทางมาประเทศไทย (2) ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักท่องเที่ยวชาวสหราชอาณาจักรกลุ่มผู้มีรายได้สูงที่เดินทางมาประเทศไทย (3) ปัญหาในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักท่องเที่ยวชาวสหราชอาณาจักรกลุ่มผู้มีรายได้สูงที่เดินทางมาประเทศไทย การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพนี้ใช้การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับนักท่องเที่ยวชาวสหราชอาณาจักร กลุ่มผู้มีรายได้สูงที่เดินทางมาประเทศไทยจำนวน 18 ราย ระหว่างเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2551 ถึงเดือน กรกฎาคม 2552 เป็นนักท่องเที่ยวที่มีรายได้ต่อปีมากกว่า 50,000 ปอนค์หรือ 2,750,000 ล้านบาท
และมีค่าใช้จ่ายต่อวันไม่รวมค่าที่พักนานกว่า 4,000 บาท บทสัมภาษณ์ได้นำมาวิเคราะห์เนี้อหาโดยใช้ทฤษฏีสภาวะแวดล้อมของการใช้สารสนเทศของเทเลอร์เป็นกรอบแนวคิดการวิจัย ผลการวิจัยพบว่า (1) นักท่องเที่ยวชาวสหราชอาณาจักรกลุ่มผู้มีรายได้สูงแสวงหาสารสนเทศก่อนการเดินทางได้แก่ สารสนเทศด้านสายการบินจากสื่ออินเทอร์เน็ตมากที่สุดรองลงมาคือ ด้านโรงแรมที่พัก ส่วนสารสนเทศที่ใช้ประกอบการตัดสินใจในการเดินทางและสารสนเทศที่สนใจเกี่ยวกับแหล่งท่องเที่ยวระหว่างการเดินทางจากแหล่งสารสนเทศร่วมกันมากกว่าหนึ่งแหล่งเช่น สื่ออินเทอร์เน็ตร่วมกับบริษัททัวร์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบราคาตั๋วเครื่องบินและโรงแรมที่พัก สื่ออินเทอร์เน็ตร่วมกับหนังสือท่องเที่ยวและเครือข่ายทางสังคมเพื่อใช้ประกอบการตัดสินใจในการเดินทาง เอกสารแผ่นพับและคนท้องถิ่นเพื่อแสวงหาสารสนเทศที่สนใจเกี่ยวกับแหล่งท่องเที่ยว เป็นต้น (2) ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการแสวงหาสารสนเทศของนักท่องเที่ยว ได้แก่ ประสบการณ์ในการเดินทาง ทัศนคติต่อเทคโนโลยีอินเทอร์เน็ค การใช้เครือข่ายทางสังคม ความ
สนใจพิเศษ และการเขาถึงสารสนเทศจากแหล่งต่าง ๆ (3) ปัญหาในการแสวงหาสารสนเทศ ได้แก่ ปัญหาคุณภาพและปริมาณของสารสนเทศ ปัญหาการใช้ไฮเปอร์ลิงก์ ปัญหาเวลาที่ใช้ในการค้นปัญหาเว็บไซต์ภาษาไทย และปัญหาการจองตั๋วเครื่องบินออนไลน์
The research aimed to study 1) how high-end British tourists sought their travel information on Thailand; 2) factors that influenced their information seeking; and 3) problems with their information seeking. This study adopted a qualitative research approach. The data was collected by face-to-face in-depth interviews with 18 high-end British tourists. The participants were selected from various tourist destinations in Thailand from November 2008 to July 2009. All interviewees had a yearly income over 50,000 pounds or 2.75 million baht and daily expenses (accommodation excluded) of over 4,000 baht. Taylor’s Information Use Environments (IUE) were used as a conceptual framework. The key findings of the study were (1) The information that high-end British tourists searched for most before travelling to Thailand was about airlines and accommodations, respectively and they did this through the Internet. Travel information for decision-making and information on attractions whilst travelling in Thailand was searched from a combination of more than one source; for example, they used the information from the Internet combined with that from travel agencies to compare airfares and accommodation rates. They used information from the Internet combined with that from guide books and social networks for travel information for decision-making before travelling and used information from brochures combined with that from knowledge from local people for information on attractions whilst travelling in Thailand; (2) factors that influenced information seeking of high-end British tourists were past travel experience, attitudes toward Internet technology, social networks, domain of interest and access to information; and, (3) the problems high-end British tourists encountered while they were seeking information were related to quality and quantity of information, dead hyperlinks, search time, Thai language websites, and online booking limitations
