การศึกษาค้นคว้าอิสระเรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ1) ศึกษาชีวประวัติและผลงานของ
ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วีณา จีระแพทย์ และ2) ปัจจัยที่ทำให้สู่ความสำเร็จขั้นสูงสุดในวิชาชีพการพยาบาล แหล่งข้อมูลประกอบด้วยเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้องและกรณีศึกษา คือ ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วีณา จีระแพทย์ อาจารย์คณะพยาบาลศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เครื่องมือในการศึกษา คือประเด็นการสัมภาษณ์กรณีศึกษา ที่ผู้ศึกษาพัฒนาขึ้นเองตามวัตถุประสงค์ผลการศึกษาพบว่า (1) ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.วีณา จีระแพทย์ เริ่มชีวิตราชการโดยบรรจุเป็นอาจารย์พยาบาล ได้เป็นผู้บริหารองค์กรวิชาชีพในระดับชาติและนานาชาติ มีผลงานทางวิชาการหลากหลาย อาทิ นวัตกรรมการเรียนการสอน นิพนธ์ตำราและหนังสือ วิจัยโดยเฉพาะสาขาทารกแรกเกิด ผลงานได้รับการยอมรับของ สหสาขาวิชาชีพ องค์กรวิชาชีพที่เกี่ยวข้องระดับชาติ และนานาชาติ ได้รับโปรดเกล้าฯให้ดำรงตำแหน่งสูงสุดของ ข้าราชการพลเรือนสายวิชาการ
ศาสตราจารย์ ระดับ 11 คนแรกของพยาบาลไทย และ (2) ปัจจัยที่ทำให้สู่ความสำเร็จขั้นสูงสุดในวิชาชีพการพยาบาล ประกอบด้วย 1) การอบรมเลี้ยงดูในเยาว์วัย ที่ส่งเสริมให้เป็นคนมีความคิดวิเคราะห์ และมีความเป็นนักวิจัย 2) เป็นผู้มีจิตใฝ่รู้ค้นหาคำตอบอยู่เสมอ มีเป้าหมายในการทำงานที่ชัดเจน และมีความรักในเพื่อนมนุษย์และวิชาชีพ 3) การมีหลักธรรมนำชีวิตโดยการใช้อิทธิบาทสี่ 4) การมีจังหวะก้าวแต่ละขณะของชีวิต การมีมิตรและเครือข่ายดีและ 5) การมีคู่ชีวิตที่ดี ช่วยเสริมเติมเต็มชีวิตและการงาน
The purposes of this study were: (1) to study the biography and the achievements of Dr.Veena Jirapaet, and (2) to study determining factors which led to the highest succession in her nursing profession. Data resources included related documents and case study. Prof.Dr.Veena Jirapaet is a nurse instructor of Faculty of Nursing, Chulalongkorn University. Semi-structure interview was developed by investigator and used as a study tool. The results of study were as follows. (1) Professor Dr. Veena Jirapaet started her career path as a nurse instructor in government sector, and held position as an administer at the National and International level of Nursing Council. Her outstanding achievements included nursing innovative instruction, some textbooks, and research works, especially in the field of new born care which has been widely recognized nationally and internationally by relevant professional organizations as well as health care providers. By royal appointment, Professor Dr. Veena was promoted to Professor of Nursing, Level Class 11 as the first Thai nurse holding this academic position. (2) Determining factors which led her to the highest succession were as follows. 1) Under her parents’ good care, she was brought up to be critical thinker with research mind. 2) As a fast learner, she has always sought answers to her doubts, set clear goals for her works, with love in mankind and professionalism. 3) Having followed Dharma principle, she has adopted the 4 paths of accomplishment in her life journey. 4) Timely life step, she has true friends and good network throughout her working life. Finally, 5) her nice spouse has always supported and fulfilled her life and works
