การศึกษาเรื่องนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) สภาพทางสังคมและเศรษฐกิจของเกษตรกร (2) การผลิต
มังคุดของเกษตรกร (3) ปัญหาและข้อเสนอแนะของเกษตรกรเกี่ยวกับการผลิตมังคุดของเกษตรกร และ (4) ความต้องการ
การส่งเสริมการผลิตมังคุดของเกษตรกร ผลการศึกษาพบว่า (1) เกษตรกรร้อยละ 92.7 เป็นเพศชาย ร้อยละ 92.7 อายุเฉลี่ย 51.98 ปี ส่วนมากจบ
การศึกษาระดับประถมศึกษา มีสมาชิกในครัวเรือน เฉลี่ย 3.98 คน มีแรงงานในครัวเรือน เฉลี่ย 2.38 คน มีการจ้างแรงงาน

พันธุ์ที่มีการรับรอง เกษตรกรทั้งหมดมีการขุดหลุมปลูกผสมดินปลูก การตัดแต่งกิ่งหลังเก็บเกี่ยว การใช้สารกำจัดวัชพืช

The purposes of this research were to study (1) socio-economic circumstance of mangosteen farmers, (2) mangosteen production by farmers, (3) problems and suggestions of farmers regarding mangosteen production, and (4) mangosteen production and extension needs of farmers. The population in this study was mangosteen farmers in Klaeng District of Rayong Province who registered with Agricultural Extension Office, Klaeng District in 2012. By simple random sampling a number of 193 households were selected as sample groups. Data was collected by interview form and then analyzed by computer program using the following statistics i.e. frequency, grade point average, percentage, mean, maximum value, minimum value and standard deviation. The research findings were as follows. (1) 92.7% of the farmers were male with their average age at 51.98 years. Most of them completed primary education. Their average household member was 3.98 persons with the average household labor 2.38 persons. The average number of hired labor was 14.49 persons. They spent their own income for mangosteen production. 95.3% of them were members of agricultural institute, mostly agricultural groups’ members. Their main occupation was rubber plantation and their subordinate occupation was fruit plantation. Their average experience in mangosteen production was 15.8 years. Their average area for mangosteen planting was 6.02 rai. Type of mangosteen plantation, 92.2% were mixed plantation (planting more than 2 kinds of fruit). The average age of mangosteen tree was 15.13 years. The average of mangosteen production was 598.50 kg/rai. The average cost for mangosteen production was 4,060.88 baht/rai. The average income earned from mangosteen production was 10,538.87 baht/rai. 43.5% of them sold mangosteen in local fruit market. Every household owned their television sets. 54.4% of community media was media from the Agricultural technology Transfer and Service Center. 98.4% of them received information and news on mangosteen production from staff of private sector and companies. The next 75.1% received from agricultural extension agents. (2) In terms of mangosteen, it was found most of the farmers practiced in the following issues: under sandy loams, they bought mangosteen plantlets from certified plantlets source. All of the farmers dug pits for planting and mixed planting soil, rejuvenation was carried out after harvest including application of substance to get rid of weed flora after harvest. They used chemical fertilizer formula 15-15-15 or 16-16-16 to induce young leafs. Their application of chemical formula 8-24-24 or 9-24-24 was the tree preparation for flowering and sprayed chemical substance to prevent thrips in flowering period. They managed quantity of flower per tree and managed water supply to enhance fruiting development. They collected mangosteens after 11-12 weeks of fruiting. For harvest, they used efficient equipment and selected quality prior to selling. (3) Serious problems included taking care during flowering period, fruiting period and nurturing the fruits. For suggestions, they would like the public sector to find the way to speedy distribute mangosteen products to other regions during the products concentration. Also they would like to solve mangosteen disease. Continued training should be held as well to provide the farmers with mangosteen production knowledge. (4) In terms of agricultural extension, the farmers’ requirement based on mangosteen production technology at high level included taking care during flowering period, fruiting period and nurturing the fruits and pre-flowering period by official staff via television media and lecture.
